Belly bands are a simple way of saving your furniture. Belly bands are great. It's a simple way for you to attach a pad inside and velcro around your chihuahua's private area so that when he decides to lift his leg to pee, it goes into the pad, and not on your furniture. As my Shorty dog got to be an adult, he stopped squatting to pee. He started lifting his leg. However, not only was he missing his papers and pee pad on the floor, he then started lifting his leg on my walls, on my big screen tv, my new end tables, and anything he decided needed his marking. We had to replace all the doors in the area where he had his pee pad. This meant replacing the bathroom door, my daughter's door, all the wood baseboards and this wasn't funny. It is costly. I soon discovered my end tables had been peed on. Those were washable, but it was getting to the point of ridiculous. I went to the pet store. Searching for an answer, I bought the doggie diaper. It only slipped off. He is such a little guy that he managed to get out of it.
I went to walmart and bought newborn preemie diapers and to no avail.
So, I searched some more and came up with a solution thus making belly bands. They work so well that I can now rest and not have to worry when I am working that he is able to lift that leg and it all goes to the pad inside the belly band. What can I say, he's just a male dog and he's doing his thing, only now, it's not destroying all my things. That makes me a happy camper indeed !

I was just wondering if you could tell me which belly band you bought for your chi? I'm searching for the right one for my chi and since you've used them with success, maybe I'll try them too. Do you leave your chi in the band all day while you work?
My little lady dog is 6 weeks old, when do I get her spayed as we have 4 loving males here and I just want to do the responsible thing on her behalf! Thanks.
The person who is blaming the owner for not pottying training it's dog is just plain ignorant. A dog can be potty trained and still urinate in the house because peeing in the house and "marking" are two different things. I got my chihuahua when he was 4 months old and started potty training him immediately. He got the hang of it right away and was going potty outside each time I took him out. There wasn't a problem until he got older and learned to "lift his leg". As soon as this happened, he started marking everything....inside and out. Dogs don't release small quantities of urine on things because they have to pee, they do it to "mark" their territory. It is a hard behavior to stop and has little or nothing to do with a dog being potty trained. Maybe you should educate yourself before you criticize others!
I don't see a post blaming the owner for not potty training - perhaps it was removed. As a professional dog trainer I have to say marking can and should be stopped through behaviour modification. Belly bands are great for keeping things clean and preventing re-marking as you work to extinguish the behaviour but should NOT be used as a solution!
