Great Blankets For Christmas

As I was doing my Christmas shopping I stumbled upon a great deal, and yes, it was at my local Walmart ! I have been searching for a gift for my chi's and haven't really run into anything that they really need so there it was, right in a great big bin, all ready for me to buy. They were having their holiday throws, the oh! so soft ones with really pretty holiday colors and they were only $3.00 so I got one. I wished that I had picked up 3, with my having 3 dogs, but I didn't. I don't know what I was thinking but when I went back to get 2 more, they were indeed all gone. I made one of my chi's her own pink pillow to go inside of her crate at night and I bought a couple of toys for them all, but wished I had gotten more than one blanket throw. I hear that for today only, old navy is going to have throws for $3.00, so maybe I better head over there and buy 2 more. What did you get for your dog family member this Christmas?

Less Than 30 Days and Fleas Again !

Here it is, less than 30 days of using the new flea medication called Vectra, and my dogs have fleas again. Now, its not like they are outdoors all the time, but geez, I am so tired of fighting off fleas. I have tried just about everything, but now I am wondering if those garlic tablets offer any help? What about the vinegar in the water, would that help? I have no clue. Anybody using something that actually works?

What Are You Getting For Your Doggies For Christmas?

I have told my chis that if they aren't good doggies, then Santa Clause will not bring them any toys. Well, they have been so good and now I am having to get out and buy them something, but what? I don't like feeding my dogs any chewie toys because I am afraid they might break off a piece too big and get sick, so that's out of the question. How about a new toy? Well, it's going to have to be something small enough for their mouths because they are so tiny. Toys don't always last too long with my male chi though, so maybe a new blankie to sleep with? Yes, I think that's what I am going to get them. They could use some new nighty blankets. What are you buying for yours?

My Faithful Chihuahuas

Dogs are so faithful....especially my chihuahuas. My mother passed away unexpectidly and I had to be gone for 9 days. Although I did leave them at home in capable hands, they did not have me to feed them and baby them like I always do. There was no way that I could take them with me so I left to take care of things out of state and the moment I stepped back into the house, there they were waiting anxiously for me. Although I have been through some really hard times lately, my dogs have always been there for me.

Flea Medication

Here we are in November, and the fleas are still around!!! I put some frontline plus on my dogs as usual but this time just after having it only one week, the fleas were back! I was livid, of course, as this flea medication isn't cheap, especially if you are a more-than-one-dog owner. I called up the lady at the vet shop inside of the petsmart and asked her if there were anything new. She said Vectra. I went and purchased this for my babies and have now applied it. I am going to keep you updated as to see if it's working or not. Actually, she said there was a money-back guarantee....that's even better. This is NOT for cats though.

Chis Love Sunbathing

Summer comes and summer goes, and another year is going to come to a close pretty fast. I feel like life is passing by really quickly. My chihuahuas remain the same, adorable, loving sweethearts that they always have been. I have noticed how they love laying in a spot of sunlight that comes in when I have the door open. If you have chis that love to do that as well, keep a close eye on them because they can get dehydrated easily and start panting furiously. I have to watch their time in the sun and close my door if they stay there too long. Make sure that your chis always have available water to them.

Female Chis

My "Prissy" dog has been too funny lately. She went into heat, poor girl, and since we have a male dog here (Shorty) it hasn't been easy for the girl. She hasn't had ANY interest in being with Shorty and I watched one day as he was starting to bother her.....she bit him, chased him around the room and bit him again. He was racing around trying to get away from her. I joked with my family that Shorty shouldn't have bothered my dog so much but it's just dog nature. Now that she is off of her heat period, things have pretty much gone back to normal. How does your female dog react when in heat?

My Chihuahuas ARE Barking!

Sorry for not posting for awhile, but we have been totally busy this summer getting my daughter's quinceanera finished.....now that it's done and school has started, I am up and running more on my blogging.
Yes, my chihuahuas are barking these days. My Prissy has given me so much happiness. I am going to get out my sewing machine and start making more doggie napsacks to put on my website.
Shorty dog did get into a bit of trouble today as I caught him chewing up Abbey's dog bed to the point I had to throw it away. Bad Doggie !!
Hopefully soon the weather will be starting to cool down and the fleas won't be so bad. Anyone have any chi stories they want to share?

Chihuahuas and Jealousy

I tell you, my chihuahuas are something else. They can sure entertain me, that is, when they aren't sleeping. I have found that not only does my male chi get jealous of the attention that I give my hubby or that he gives to me, but my female chi thinks she owns me and boy she just totally comes unglued when I am giving any attention to anyone other than her. She will nudge herself into the smallest of spots, just to be near me. I wonder if my chis do things that they know they aren't supposed to do when they get mad or jealous. I have found several times when they felt like they weren't getting all the attention that they would go and tinkle on the floor where they know they aren't supposed to, just to get my attention towards what they have done. And even though my female squats when she pees, I have noticed a few times when she acts like she's a male and tries to spray on different areas, such as getting up really close to a mattress or the doorway and going there, right on the spot where you have to step out of the room. When she gets all the attention, she seems to do just fine. Hummmmm.....wonder what that's all about!

Shorty Dog Had A Seizure Today

Today my shorty dog had another seizure and I am glad that I was home to help him. I noticed him under my kitchen table with his bottom side up in the air and he was not moving. I thought he looked quite odd, actually. I picked him up and put him on the couch and he kind of laid there funny, so we picked him up and talked to him and held him for a little while and soon, it was all over. He was back to normal again. I just don't know what triggers seizures in him and my other two don't seem to have any problems. Some people say that vet dr.s can give different meds to help this, but does it really? Do they really know what helps this or how we can prevent this from happening? Anybody have any input about this?

I Guess I Have To Retrain My Abbey Dog Again??

Besides my two chihuahuas, I have a chi/terrier, named Abbey who is starting to give me a little bit of trouble these days.....and I have yet to discover what's going on with her. Every night, my chis sleep in their kennel, actually they love it and my Prissy will come and get me to tuck her in each night. Prissy likes to have the cage door shut with a towel on top of the cage covering her door, I suppose she just likes her privacy. (lol). Shorty has his own kennel and retires there over night as well, but Abbey, she has the run of the whole front of the house, with her bed in the living room corner between the two sofas. I have pee pads down in the same spot down the hall way and every single morning we wake up and Abbey has pooed in the living room and not only that, it's on our rug. I don't know why. She knows good and well where the pee pad is and normally uses that during the night but all of a sudden now, she has decided that our living room carpet is where she's supposed to go. We caught her yesterday in the act and scolded her, but again this morning, there was pooh. Maybe she needs to start sleeping in the bathroom until she learns all over again where the pee pad is. I just don't know what's going on with her these days. Any suggestions on how to retrain a dog who's about 5 years old and has always gone potty in the right place until now????

The Dog Days of Summer

Summer is fastly approaching and my darling chis have been able to go outside on the front porch and enjoy the breeze, but soon, they will be stuck in the house more due to the very hot weather. We have been having mid 90 degrees here and not much rain. My poor chihuahuas run to the door so they can go outside, but I am not able to let them out for long, but mostly in the morning time before it gets too hot. Guess they will just have to be their lazy selves enjoying the summer in the air conditioning. Crazy dogs!

Getting Ready For Vacation

Well, school is almost out and we will soon be heading up north to see my folks, whom I haven't seen in a couple of years. I am excited, but I will not be taking my precious chihuahua babies with me so it kind of saddens me. There are a great many who do take their dogs with them on vacation, however, my dogs are not used to being on a leash. I have decided that they would be better off staying here at home, where they are used to being. I am very fortunate though, because I have 2 sons and a daughter in law that will be here to watch after them. What do you do with your pets when you go on vacation? Do you use a kennel service, a dog-sitting service, or do you take them along with you?

Potty Training Mishaps

My dogs are by no means puppies anymore. They have been trained for quite a long time. But what about that dog who suddenly starts going pooh where he shouldn't? I have just recently discovered that one of my chihuahuas are now thinking that they are allowed to run into the main hall bathroom and do his business whenever that door isn't shut completely. He not only decides to pooh in the wrong place, but he has been doing his business on the rug. Not only that, it's always the most prettiest rug in that room, and when that rug isn't available, he goes on the shower rug. I don't know what's gotten into him that he thinks that he needs to do this. I had been trying to keep the door shut, but yesterday, I found that after everyone had left for work, someone had left open that door, and I caught Shorty-dog coming out of there, just in time, before he left his business on the floor. I know it's him because the other 2 chis I have don't like going in there because that's the bathroom where they get their baths at. Now, the question is, what can I do about this?

Chis and Fleas

Do you take your chihuahua outside or do they get any outdoor activity? Mine were constantly indoor guys but my hubby finally made a closed in porch right in front so they could go outside when the weather is nice and enjoy the breeze. I think it's wonderful and so do they but I also believe that the outside freely-running cats in the neighborhood have contributed to our flea problem. I recently purchased a bag of "bug out" for my lawn and hopefully it will work. I think that you must treat fleas indoors and outdoors if your chis are outside any at all. What do you use when using a flea control method? What works for your chis?

Flea Time Again, Here Comes Summer!

As much as I didn't want to do it, I had to go and buy some frontline plus today for my dogs flea problem. I tried many many different holistic or natural products and nothing seemed to work. My poor pups were starting to scratch and it wasn't getting any better. At the same time, I bought some "bug-out" to sprinkle around in the yard outside to help the flea situation there too. It's almost summer and fleas really get worse as the weather gets warmer, so I had to break down and do it, as much as I didn't want to. I honestly thought that some of the natural remedies out there would help but honestly, they didn't. Maybe you know of something that DOES work, and if so, please let me know. Thanks!

Dog Food Update

Amongst many things, two of my three chis have developed an allergy to this new food, and their skin has turned bright red....geez, just when I thought that I had found something that they really liked. I went to a pet store in my area and talked to the owner. He had several suggestions for me. I took a couple of trial packs of nature's variety, and guess what? My chis were fighting over it! That was such a suprize for me because they normally don't fight over their foods. I am now trying this to see how it does for them. In the mean time, they are still onry as ever.

I Think I Found A Good Dog Food

I have been racking my brain over finding a good dog food and I have been on many different sites looking. I think that there is so much controversy over dog foods that it makes me dizzy. What can I buy that's good for my dogs, yet something that I can actually afford? Geez, there are so many to choose from. I had settled on 4 different brands. 1. Canidae, 2. Avoderm, 3. Chicken Soup, 4. Innova. I checked all of these out online. They all seem to be pretty good. I tried to buy Canidae but left the seller several messages but never got a call back....maybe she just isn't selling it anymore? I also went to the store to pick up a bag of Avoderm because Petco will let me take it back if my dogs don't like it......well, I had also heard that Solid Gold was good too. I saw it there on the shelves and decided to compare the ingredients from the Avoderm to the Solid Gold. I decided to take the Solid Gold, hoping that my picky eaters would eat it. Much to my suprize, they did!!! The chunks are way bigger than they like, so I put some in a baggie and crunched them up a little, then I added just a tiny amount of water and they ate like no tomorrow!!!! Who would have thought! I also had a sample pack of the wee bits, also by solid gold and they ate that too. My oh My what a suprize! What dog foods have you tried for your chis that they liked? I would love to know what everyone else uses!

Again Come The Flea Problems !

I don't like sounding like a broken record here, but here we are experiencing fleas again!! This is getting past the point of ridiculous and my poor babies are miserable. I went on a search again, to see what would work. Those nasty flea drops that you put on their necks just don't work very long for us, about a week or so, but that's not worth the cost that I am paying for them.......so, I started looking for some natural stuff. I really did find a few things on the market that are safe for them. I bought a de-flea spray that had some natural stuff in it. I also have discovered that what you feed them really DOES make a difference. Healthy dogs normally do not have many fleas, if any. At least that's what I have been reading about. I am on a hunt to find a better food for them. I have found several great websites about food. http://dogfoodanalysis.com is a great site, also I have found other ratings at http://hubpages.com/hub/Dog_Food_Review
If anybody else has anything else to offer, please let me know. So far, I think that there are many great dog foods on the market, but geez, watch out for the prices !!

Easter and Chocolate Bunnies !!

This is my little stinker, Prissy. She is the highlight of any cloudy day. I am sure if you have a chihuahua, you feel the same way about yours. Tomorrow is Easter, a time for many who worship, go to church, many who come home and hide the Easter eggs outside in the lawn for the youngins to find, and a time for many baskets that are filled with chocolate candy. Please take great care that your chis do NOT get ahold of any chocolate at all. It can be very poisonous for them. I don't know what's in it that is bad, but please know that they cannot have it. With so much going on during this holiday, take special care to keep the candy up and away from your curious chihuahuas, or any dog for that matter. What are my chis getting for Easter? Just a bunch of lovin and attention.........that's really all they want. Happy Easter everyone !

The Chihuahua Who Has to Check Everything Out

Leave it up to my nosy chihuahua to check out the packages that arrived for my son the other day. She just couldn't stand it. Chihuahuas CAN be quite nosey..

I Caught The Guilty Party !!!

My Chihuahuas are so funny.....they think that they are just too clever! This morning as I was coming out of my room, I happened to see a very fast moving dog coming out of my daughter's room, in which she wasn't supposed to be in. The door happened to be slightly ajar and out she came! It was Abbey dog. She knew that she wasn't supposed to be in there, but dogs are so nosey sometimes. Here is the after picture of her getting caught. Crazy Dog

Food Allergies?

I am still trying to find the right food for my chihuahua/terrier mix. Abbey seems to be allergic to the chicken in the food that I have been giving her. I know that it's not the wheat or corn because it's a natural food, stating that there is nothing in it to cause allergies, but I have been reading and some dogs can even be allergic to the chicken. She has been digging and itching right above her tail. This happened before when she was having problems with her food, but I changed it, due to that recall and she was better. I don't know why, but I ended up changing it again, in due part to the ingredients, but now, she is having trouble again. I am once again on the search for something she can digest. Now, as far as my chihuahuas, Prissy, and Shorty are concerned, they are doing wonderfully on this food.....just wished I could find something that all three of them liked and could eat. Any suggestions?

Do Dogs Have Their "Blah" Days Like We Do?

I wondered this for the past several days as my sweet little Prissy dog was acting quite down. She was wanting to be "babied". She normally jumps up on the chair with me, but all of a sudden, she wasn't willing to jump up anymore. What happened to her? I looked all over to see if she hurt herself, but nothing was wrong. She was just acting like she was sad and wanted to sit with me. I let this continue, wondering what on earth was going on with her.....but after a couple of days of being babied, she finally went back to normal again and is back to her old barking, and jumping up and down self. I wonder, if dogs do go through a "blah" day or two, what makes them do this, and what happens to get them back on the normal track again? Anyone else experience this?

Dog Food and Too Much Pooh !

Oh my little darlins are so special. I noticed lately that I had been cleaning up ALOT of pooh around here and it was getting a little much. Yes, I know that when dogs eat, they go pooh, however, it was more than I thought it should be. They were going way too much, for what food that they ate, so I started researching the problem. I discovered that corn, or wheat in their food can also make more pooh. I looked on the ingredient list of one of the foods I was giving them, and there it was. Even though the first 5 ingredients were chicken, chicken meal and the good stuff, one the 7th ingredient listed, it had corn gluten meal. That's what was doing it right there, along with the fact that the crude fiber was 3% instead of 4%. I had to go out looking all over again to find something without the corn stuff in it, and I did find something good. If your dog is poohing too much, it could be the food, but then again, there are other reasons for it. Keeping your little ones healthy is very important to having a happy doggie !!

Dogs and Time

Day after day, I am greeted by my little chihuahuas at the door. No matter what time it is, no matter if I had just walked outside to get the mail, there they are waiting anxiously for me to come back in the door. They are always happy to see me. I recently had an emergency trip to Florida, where my dad underwent an unexpected quadruple bypass. I was so busy with my dad, spent most of my time there, but as I went back to my dad's home every night, I thought about my doggies and wondered if they would forget about me since I was gone so long. My sister said that dogs have no concept of time. I wonder, if perhaps that's true, because when I came home, they were overjoyed to see me, as if I had never left. What do you think? Do your puppies greet you happily at the door every time you come home?

Dog food, Dog food

I tell you, chihuahuas are famous for being picky eaters. They, or at least mine, seem to love the smaller kibbles and love taking one kibble at a time out of their bowl and bringing it to my living room and munching down on it right on my carpet. Why do they do that for? Do they think the kitchen and bowls they have aren't good enough? My dogs are so funny, but oh, so cute !
I have all three of them, who love boiled chicken, but I try not to give them too much of it because it makes them have the runs and soft stools. My vet said they could have it, but it doesn't seem to bring them any good, except the happiness they have when they devour it. Make sure your dog food ingredients have meat listed as one of the first ingredients on the bag. They love meat !

Chihuahuas and jeaoulousy

Chihuahuas can be really demanding, especially if they think they are being challenged. My Prissy dog thinks that she owns me, and if ANYONE else in the family comes near me, give me attention or takes more of my time than SHE thinks they should, she is right there, up in my face, licking what she can, to get more of my time. She is a jealous little thing for sure. Chihuahuas love being the center of attention and will try every little thing that they can to get your attention. Of course, my chis deserve all the love in the world because they are absolutely wonderful. My chi loves jumping up and down, grasping at the edge of my shirt when I get online because she thinks that she needs to be sitting on my lap. She fiercely wants my undying attention. Funny, how these very small dogs can be so jealous.

Featuring........Shorty Dog in all His Glory

Shorty dog is comfortably lounging on his favorite pillow on my bed as I work on the computer tonite. He was a little resentful that the flash came on as he is trying his best to get a good siesta before I put him into his kennel tonight. How does your chihuahua enjoy his favorite sleeping moments? Does he/she lay in funny positions like my shorty dog?

What is the New Year Bringing For Your Chi??

Well, the new year rolled in with a bang, all the house was quiet and still, until someone nearby popped off some fireworks and Shorty went into his crying bit. He whined and whined and of course, he had to be soothed so he wouldn't wake up the whole house. What does the new year bring for your chi? For mine, I think that they are going to get a new outdoor pen to be able to go outside in for brief periods of time when it isn't cold. I know they will really enjoy that alot. I take them out on the porch sometimes and they really seem to love it. Chi's love the outdoors, but they surely don't like the cold weather, so if you go out on an outing, make sure they have on their coats or sweaters !
