I Think I Found A Good Dog Food

I have been racking my brain over finding a good dog food and I have been on many different sites looking. I think that there is so much controversy over dog foods that it makes me dizzy. What can I buy that's good for my dogs, yet something that I can actually afford? Geez, there are so many to choose from. I had settled on 4 different brands. 1. Canidae, 2. Avoderm, 3. Chicken Soup, 4. Innova. I checked all of these out online. They all seem to be pretty good. I tried to buy Canidae but left the seller several messages but never got a call back....maybe she just isn't selling it anymore? I also went to the store to pick up a bag of Avoderm because Petco will let me take it back if my dogs don't like it......well, I had also heard that Solid Gold was good too. I saw it there on the shelves and decided to compare the ingredients from the Avoderm to the Solid Gold. I decided to take the Solid Gold, hoping that my picky eaters would eat it. Much to my suprize, they did!!! The chunks are way bigger than they like, so I put some in a baggie and crunched them up a little, then I added just a tiny amount of water and they ate like no tomorrow!!!! Who would have thought! I also had a sample pack of the wee bits, also by solid gold and they ate that too. My oh My what a suprize! What dog foods have you tried for your chis that they liked? I would love to know what everyone else uses!

Food Allergies?

I am still trying to find the right food for my chihuahua/terrier mix. Abbey seems to be allergic to the chicken in the food that I have been giving her. I know that it's not the wheat or corn because it's a natural food, stating that there is nothing in it to cause allergies, but I have been reading and some dogs can even be allergic to the chicken. She has been digging and itching right above her tail. This happened before when she was having problems with her food, but I changed it, due to that recall and she was better. I don't know why, but I ended up changing it again, in due part to the ingredients, but now, she is having trouble again. I am once again on the search for something she can digest. Now, as far as my chihuahuas, Prissy, and Shorty are concerned, they are doing wonderfully on this food.....just wished I could find something that all three of them liked and could eat. Any suggestions?

Dog Food and Too Much Pooh !

Oh my little darlins are so special. I noticed lately that I had been cleaning up ALOT of pooh around here and it was getting a little much. Yes, I know that when dogs eat, they go pooh, however, it was more than I thought it should be. They were going way too much, for what food that they ate, so I started researching the problem. I discovered that corn, or wheat in their food can also make more pooh. I looked on the ingredient list of one of the foods I was giving them, and there it was. Even though the first 5 ingredients were chicken, chicken meal and the good stuff, one the 7th ingredient listed, it had corn gluten meal. That's what was doing it right there, along with the fact that the crude fiber was 3% instead of 4%. I had to go out looking all over again to find something without the corn stuff in it, and I did find something good. If your dog is poohing too much, it could be the food, but then again, there are other reasons for it. Keeping your little ones healthy is very important to having a happy doggie !!

Dog food, Dog food

I tell you, chihuahuas are famous for being picky eaters. They, or at least mine, seem to love the smaller kibbles and love taking one kibble at a time out of their bowl and bringing it to my living room and munching down on it right on my carpet. Why do they do that for? Do they think the kitchen and bowls they have aren't good enough? My dogs are so funny, but oh, so cute !
I have all three of them, who love boiled chicken, but I try not to give them too much of it because it makes them have the runs and soft stools. My vet said they could have it, but it doesn't seem to bring them any good, except the happiness they have when they devour it. Make sure your dog food ingredients have meat listed as one of the first ingredients on the bag. They love meat !

Oh my babies are so cute when they beg

I feed my dogs in the morning, even before I feed myself or my family. I take sure they have clean water and enough food to get through most of the day. I know how important it is to freely give chihuahuas and other small toy dogs food so they will not have a problem. I make my breakfast, or any lunch or dinner as well, and there they are, looking at you with those sad eyes, acting just like they had never eaten a thing in their whole lives.. oh, how pitiful. As much as you really want to hand them a bite under the table, it's not good for them to eat much people food. Sure, my vet told me that they could have fresh chicken, boiled... they can even eat a little bit of that squeeze-canned cheese, but all in all, our foods are not that good for them as they can cause them to get overly fat. We want to feed them well, but not make them too fat because that is not good for their health...
I know, I know, many a people say that they gave human food to their dogs and they did just fine. That is all good for them, however, they get things that are good for them in their own food, as long as you choose something healthy for them. Something that has the first ingredient being a meat.
Choose their food wisely. And about the sad eyes, well, I still haven't found a way to conquer that one yet.

Feeding your chihuahua

Oh, with all the hype in the news these days about bad dog and cat food, I shutter to think about those poor owners who's dogs and cats suffered from the food. How do you know these days?
Well, thank goodness, my food was safe. What ever food that you choose, you can always go by this fact. Reading the label on the food ingredients to make sure that a meat is always listed first. If it says corn meal first, then you are paying for that. Dogs seems to do better with lamb or chicken listed first but mine do like beef. Beef can be an allergen to them if they are so proned to be allergic. When choosing a dog food, it might be a good idea to ask your vet about it, research it online and ask around about it. Then, follow the guidelines to how much to feed. Overfeeding them because they have those big sad eyes looking at you will only make them gain too much weight. As for treats, there are so many to choose from. I don't feed my dogs any of the nylabone or any chews because I am afraid of them biting off too much and choking. However, I do give them dog cookies. Make sure you keep up on the brushing of their teeth on a regular basis to keep the tarter away. Chihuahuas can get tarter easily.
